A short video with audio about a ceramicist who's work I really admire. I love the concept and meaning behind her work, and I love how accurate and detailed the final products are. This project overall was pretty simple for me because I have a bit of video and audio editing experience, but it was good to brush up and also think about ways this could be incorporated as a project in an art class. What was actually most challenging for me was making this under the 3 min limit. I had at least another minute of content I would have liked to included. I think this could be a great project to have students learn about a new artist, or "show and tell" about a musician or other type of artist they really admire, and that gets them familiar with the software.

Reflection

Overall I had a positive experience with this project. With all group projects, there are challenges with communication since everyone has a different lifestyle, but we did not put things off till the last minute, and I think we were good at making decisions and being confident in the direction our project would take. I would like to do this project with a class someday. Through my observations I have heard about similar projects being done, and it seems completely possible which is an exciting prospect.

In the future, I would like to be more upfront with group members about doing a fair amount of work, and having better communication, but I think we all stepped up and did our part which is great. I am happy with the end result and I know we all tried our best. Another challenge was us all getting on the same page for what the expectations would be for the students. We all had slightly different ideas about how involved/hands on the teacher should be, and how much freedom the students should have which caused me to think more about my own perspective as a teacher. I think we were good at debating our opinions but then ultimately compromising on one idea so we all had a cohesive plan for the project. I am happy with the work we did, and for a group project it was pretty painless! :)

ANIMATION

PROJECT

Reflection

Making an animation was a lot of work, but this project turned out to be something I am really proud of, and shared with my friends when it was done. I liked how open-ended the prompt was, which really allowed me to make something that expressed my interests, which at the moment are Dolly Parton and Trixie Mattel. Trixie Mattel, for those who do not know, is a drag queen who first got popular from RuPaul's Drag Race. I just really like her humor and aesthetic, as well as the music she makes. Part of her persona really feels like Dolly to me in the way that it is very over the top, so it felt like an appropriate match up.

If I were to do this project again on my own, I think I would spend more time figuring out how to sync the lips to the lyrics better. That would have taken a lot more time and patience than I currently possess, but I think it would have elevated the video. If I were to do this with a class, I would recommend they not trying to sync it to faces because I think that is likely too challenging.

I enjoyed working with the paper-cut medium. It challenged me to think about things in individual shapes, and also how to make different parts moveable so they would look more life-like. I would say that cutting out all the paper pieces and drawing them was the most difficult part, and actually filming it was the easiest. It was fun to have an excuse to use glitter, and I'm really happy with the final product.

HOW-TO (WEAVING)

Reflection

Doing this How-To was actually pretty easy! I did it all in about 2.5 hours, and I'm really happy with the result. I'm going to share it on my professional page where I sell weavings and ceramics. I feel like I had an advantage for this because in a past life when I worked in film, I worked for a production company that is YouTube based, called AwesomenessTV. They let me produce a bunch of "DIY" videos, where I would come up with a bunch of random ideas and they'd give me $200 for supplies and I'd have a camera person and an assistant and we'd just make videos all day for Facebook/YouTube.

Because of that experience, I remembered how to best film/edit these videos if I wanted some of those seamless pop-in effects, and how to keep my body from getting my head in it (although I did have that happen a few times). What I learned from this was that since it was pretty simple for me, I think this would be a good resource in the classroom for demonstrations in case students are absent and need to know what happened when they were gone. I think this could be really helpful and save me some time and energy down the line.

Thank you so much for a great semester, I hope you have a great holiday break!
